Intro
We now live in the age of thinking machines. What does it mean to be human when machines can think?
AI is here. Agents are here. The nature of work on a computer has been changed forever. When use of a computer changes, the changes ripple through every industry. Unless you're living an intentionally analog life, you will be impacted.
These technologies are marvels. We now live in the age of thinking machines.
I'm deeply curious about how these technologies will impact us as humans. My mind is filled with questions.
What does it mean to be human when machines can think?
How will they change how we see ourselves?
How will they influence what we determine is well-made?
How will we respond to the changes to the economy they provoke?
What becomes of craft and artistry?
How do we harness these tools for our benefit?
Will we end up serving the machines or will they serve us?
I think questions like these are the questions of our generation. What we decide will determine the shape of the world for our kids and the generations to come.
I'm starting this series to work through my own thoughts on these topics and to provoke conversation amongst my peers in the tech industry as it is us, what we believe, and how we see the world that will shape the world for our neighbours. I think we need to take that responsibility very seriously.
It's time that we begin to examine our own worldviews and explore our humanity as we shape the lives of millions.
